How to reach SaharaSky
Flights
Try to fly to Marrakech which is an excellent point of departure and return for your trip to South Morocco. All charter airlines have frequent direct flights to Marrakech and offer low airfares. Flights normally arrive in the morning and you can continue travelling by road to Zagora.
Second choice is Agadir for those who plan to extend their vacations at the famous beaches of this relaxed seaside resort. Excellent roads lead to the Zagora region.
National Flights to Zagora
The new airport of Zagora
will be re-opened in mid-2013.
Until then we recommend to fly to Marrakech or Ouarzazate and rent a
car. The drive over the High and/or Anti Atlas means crossing one of the
most impressing landscapes worldwide.
By Road
You can rent a normal car like Renault Clio, Megane
, Logan
or Fiat Punto.
Rental car price range 35-50€ per day.
No 4x4 AWD necessary to reach us.
From Marrakech to SaharaSky you follow the National road RN9. It takes 390km or 7 hours drive including stopovers for lunch and taking photos
, to the entrance of the hotel. Excellent 2-lane road over the High Atlas mountains and the Tichka pass (2260m) to Ouarzazate. Then continue over the Anti Atlas mountains and the TifnFifft pass (1600m) via Agdez and the Draa Valley and its medieval Casbahs to Zagora. From Zagora via Tamegroute still 25km or 20 minutes to our hotel which is indicated by road signs.
Detailed Map
From Agadir to SaharaSky you follow the National road N10 to Ouarzazate.
It takes 500km or 7 hours drive (no major mountains) including stopovers.
The trip leads you through Taroudant to Tazenakht (carpet capital of Morocco) where you turn right to Agdez. From there through the Draa Valley to Zagora and continue via Tamegroute another 25km to our hotel.
Detailed Map
Attention:
- Do not pick up hitchhikers or drivers with cars in false distress (open hood). In most cases they are carpet dealers trying to pull you in.
There are plenty of overland taxis at very cheap fares for everyone.
- Follow strictly the 80 and 60km speed limits within townships. Even in the
medieval southern region police is now equipped with portable radar. Speeding is
fined 700 Dirhams.
- In case of intention by gendarmes to charge a ticket, you
should offer to pay with credit card. This might solve the problem since they
are not yet equipped with TPE's.
Public Transport
From Marrakech we recommend the luxury bus lines CTM and Supratours.
The CTM overnight bus coming from Casablanca passes Marrakech CTM station at about midnight and arrives at Zagora station at 9am.
Even better take the 11am bus to M'Hamid and arrive at
8.30pm in front of our hotel.
The Supratours day bus leaves from the railway station (Gare Marrakech) at
3pm and arrives at Zagora by midnight.
Bus fare approx. 1
80 Dirhams per person.
